About the Training Center

The Kafakumba Training Center is the focus and locus of most of our formation ministry. The Center began as a mission project of  missionaries, John and Kendra Enright and Ken and Lorraine Enright. Although it is closely associated with the Zambian United Methodist (UM) Church, it serves all who come. Its Pastors’ School provides a seminary-type education for more UM pastors than any other educational facility in Africa.

The facilities of the Training Center are open for all to use at a very nominal charge due to the subsidizing support of the Development Ministries.

One can see church and community groups meeting here regularly. Ministries for women, children, classes in skills, life training, economic development, health programming, and social and culturally-appropriate programming for all ages find a home at Kafakumba. Many partners from around the world, including Africa and the United States in particular, are part of the success of the Kafakumba Training Center. It is not only a ministry of the UM Church, but also serves as a non-denominational, not-for-profit Center offered to all Christians to foster transformation.

The Training Center can sleep about 250 people in the dorms but can accommodate around 1,000 in the sizable auditorium (green roof in center below).  There is also a children’s building and a playground for children of attendees.  Meals are served in the large cafeteria and there are several classrooms for breakout sessions.

Maintenance & Upkeep

As you can imagine, a large facility like this takes a lot of maintenance and upkeep. If you can partner with us in this ministry please select “Maintenance & Renovations” on the donation page.

All funds given to the maintenance department go directly to upkeep and renovations of Kafakumba. It’s not glamorous, but very necessary and we appreciate your support!

Current Center Projects

We are currently working on updating the center bathrooms. We are also hoping to get new mattresses for the dorms. These dorms are used for Pastors’ School as well as when groups use the Center.

We would also eventually like to get new dining room picnic tables made out of metal for the cafeteria as the wooden ones are deteriorating quickly.

David oversees all maintenance of the Training Center and Kafakumba Campus as a whole. He also oversees all new construction and helps those who live in and around Kafakumba by repairing and maintaining the many things that “fall apart.”
